About the Scholarships

Stanly Health Foundation awards two scholarships annually to students pursuing careers in healthcare:

The Stanly Health Foundation C. B. Crook Family Scholarship ($5,000) honors the years of philanthropic work by the late C. B. Crook and his wife, Betty. The Crooks have been philanthropic champions for the Foundation since its inception in 1990, and Mr. Crook led the Stanly Society for more than twenty years.

The Stanly Health Foundation Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship ($2,500) celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s forty-one years of dedicated service to our hospital and his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and provided many years of volunteer support to the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center.

Both of these scholarships require that students have completed at least 60 hours of undergraduate course work by June of the year of application and be accepted into a healthcare field of study.

Winner Highlight

In 2023, the Foundation was honored to award $9,500 in scholarships to these worthy candidates and to honor the legacy of two of Stanly County’s strongest advocates for good health, C.B. Crook and Roy Hinson.

 

Gavin Olivieri of Albemarle who is working toward his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from UNC Chapel HillAfter earning his undergraduate degree, Gavin plans to pursue a Master of Health AdministrationHis career goals focus on improving operations in health care settings. 

Hailey Caudle is studying to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pfeiffer University. Her plans include continuing her studies to become a therapist.  She hopes to practice in Stanly County. 

Ashley Cody is attending Pfeiffer University and will graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degreeShe is a teammate in the Medical-Surgical department at Atrium Health StanlyAshley plans to continue her education by pursuing an MSN and becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner in Stanly County.
