Stanly Health Foundation awards two scholarships annually to students pursuing careers in healthcare:
The Stanly Health Foundation C. B. Crook Family Scholarship ( up to $5,000) honors the years of philanthropic work by the late C. B. Crook and his wife, Betty. The Crooks have been philanthropic champions for the Foundation since its inception in 1990, and Mr. Crook led the Stanly Society for more than twenty years.

The Stanly Health Foundation Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship (up to $5,000) celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s forty-one years of dedicated service to our hospital and his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and provided many years of volunteer support to the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center.

Both of these scholarships require that students have completed at least 60 hours of undergraduate course work by June of the year of application and be accepted into a healthcare field of study.
Stanly Health Foundation Awards $22,800 in Scholarships for 2026
Students had two opportunities to apply for scholarships in 2026 from the Stanly Health Foundation to support their studies in healthcare. The Stanly Health Foundation awards the Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship and the Crook Family Scholarships annually.
The Hinson Scholarship celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s forty-one years of dedicated service to the local hospital, and his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and provided many years of volunteer support to the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center.
The C.B. Crook Family Scholarship honors the years of philanthropic work by the late C.B. Crook and his wife, Betty.
To be considered for either scholarship, a student must be an Atrium Health Stanly teammate, the dependent of a teammate, or a resident of Stanly or Montgomery Counties and have completed at least half of their degree requirements by the end of the summer 2025 semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student must be accepted into a healthcare program of study.
The Stanly Health Foundation Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship was awarded to Andrea Love Lowder of Albemarle who is working toward her Master of Science in Nursing from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. She has degrees from Presbyterian School of Nursing, Cabarrus College of Health Sciences and UNC Charlotte. She has worked in Women’s Services at Atrium Health Stanly for 26 years. Andrea enjoys hiring and motivating new nursing teammates in her role as a nurse manager.
The Stanly Health Foundation C.B. Crook Family Scholarships were awarded to Emily Bolick, Carley Carpenter, Avery Carrick, Ella Combs, Jake Dennis, Kaelyn Guyette, Katie Lahaie, Sumi Lee, Anastasiya Nikolaevna, Robyn Shepherd, and Sarah Smith.
Emily Bolick is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. She is an Atrium Health Stanly teammate working in the Medical Telemetry unit. She would like to become a nurse instructor to inspire and train new nurses.
Carley Carpenter attends Stanly Community College pursuing a degree in Radiography. She has worked at Levine Cancer Institute Stanly and plans to return there after completing her education.
Avery Carrick is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Florida. She has a degree in Exercise and Sports Science from UNC. After graduation, she plans to focus on working in rural school districts to help children with disabilities.
Ella Combs attends Carolinas College of Health Sciences and is pursuing a Radiologic Technology degree. She works at Atrium Health Stanly in the Radiology department. She aspires eventually go back to school to become a Physician’s Assistant.
Jake Dennis is attending Pfeiffer University and working toward becoming a Physician’s Assistant. He graduated from UNC with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science and currently works with Stanly County EMS while attending school. He is passionate about rural healthcare.
Kaelynn Guyette is pursuing a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Wingate University. She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology. Kaelynn plans to work in home health care and has an interest in working with adult and geriatric populations.
Katie Lahaie is attending the University of South Alabama and pursuing a Family Nurse Practitioner degree. She currently works at Atrium Stanly in the PACU. Her long term goal is to promote health screenings to decrease chronic diseases in our community.
Sumi Lee is studying Radiology at Stanly Community College. She earned a degree from NC State University in 2024 and works in Patient Access at Atrium Stanly. After graduation, Sumi plans to work in radiation therapy at Atrium Stanly.
Anastasiya Saprankova attends Pfeiffer University and is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Nursing. She would like to continue her education and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist eventually.
Robyn Shepherd is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Nursing from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. She currently works in the Emergency Department at Atrium Stanly. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Systems Management from UNC Charlotte. Robyn would like to earn a Master’s degree to further her nursing career.
Sarah Smith attends Stanly Community College and is studying Respiratory Therapy. Sarah currently works as a Nurse Aide at Atrium Stanly. She is focused on providing compassionate care to patients who have limited access to specialized treatment. Sarah would like to eventually become a manager in the Respiratory Unit.
