Stanly Health Foundation Awards $21,500 in Scholarships for 2025
Students had two opportunities to apply for scholarships in 2025 from the Stanly Health Foundation to support their studies in healthcare. The Stanly Health Foundation awards the Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship and the Crook Family Scholarships annually.
The Hinson Scholarship celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s forty-one years of dedicated service to the local hospital, and his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and provided many years of volunteer support to the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center.
The C.B. Crook Family Scholarship honors the years of philanthropic work by the late C.B. Crook and his wife, Betty.
To be considered for either scholarship, a student must be an Atrium Health Stanly teammate, the dependent of a teammate, or a resident of Stanly or Montgomery Counties and have completed at least half of their degree requirements by the end of the summer 2025 semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student must be accepted into a healthcare program of study.
The Stanly Health Foundation Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship was awarded to Jake Dennis of Albemarle who is working toward his Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Pfeiffer University. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and has worked with Stanly EMS prior to pursuing his career as a PA. He is passionate about rural healthcare.
The Stanly Health Foundation C.B. Crook Family Scholarships were awarded to Temitope Bamidele, Addie Barbee, Katelyn Flowers, Caleb Lemons, Kelly Nolasco-Orellana, Anastasiya Saprankova, and Eli Toole.
Temitope Bamidele is pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Walden University. She is an Atrium Health Stanly teammate working in the behavioral health unit. She would like to become a mental health nurse practitioner and eventually pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
Addie Barbee will be attending Stanly Community College this fall to work toward an Associate degree in Radiography. She holds a BS in Exercise Science from UNC Wilmington. Addie enjoys living and working in Stanly County.
Katelyn Flowers is pursuing a BS in Nursing from Pfeiffer University. Her long-term goals include obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing and becoming a flight nurse.
Caleb Lemons attends Stanly Community College and is pursuing an Associate degree in Radiography. He works at Atrium Health Stanly as a Radiologic Technologist Assistant. His future plans include practicing in radiography or radiation therapy in Stanly County.
Kelly Nolasco-Orellana is working toward an Associate degree in Nursing from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. She has been an Atrium Health Stanly teammate for over 10 years working in the Medical Surgical Unit. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and continue to work at Atrium Stanly.
Anastasiya Saprankova attends Pfeiffer University and is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Nursing. She would like to continue her education and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist eventually.
Eli Toole holds a BS in Exercise Science from Wingate University and is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at East Carolina University. He enjoys working in a rehabilitation environment and is interested in using exercise to combat injuries and diseases.
